A TWO YEAR FILM PROJECT AROUND ICELAND

THE INSPIRING MUSIC

Heyr Himna Smiður

I want my short film to be connected with Iceland also by sounds and music. I’ve been recording stuff along the way; birds, water, wind and playing church old organs. After editing, i will (try:) to create the soundtrack around “Heyr Himna Smidur” ( English:”Hear, Smith of Heavens” ) the most beautiful and popular icelandic hymn. The lyrics were writen by Kolbeinn Tumasson (1173-1207) a poet and one of the most powerful chieftains in Iceland from the beginning of Christian times. Over 700 years later Thorkell Sigurbjörnsson (1938–2013) composed the song we can hear today. Here you can watch my 3 favourite renderings.
