A TWO YEAR FILM PROJECT AROUND ICELAND

NIGHT SHIFT

Some Making Of

In case you like this kind of stuff, here are some curiosities from my process of making it. As an amateur, i have a lot of trouble getting things nicely done, crafting every scene and burning my eyes every night for the last two years… i found that my patience is far bigger then i thought. But it is Iceland, and every clip of a place has its own magic and challenge.

It's useless... even with my marked points on the spot, perspectives never match. More work to be done at home.

The original was an engraving of the Strokkur geyser. With Photoshop it turned out to be a secret waterfall to be found. ( i wil tell you the secret: Skógafoss will match )

Frame by frame on tiny details. Lots of patience.

Been learning a lot about colour grading... think i found a satisfying amateur blend 😀

Two old pictures from the small town Vík from 1920. Mixed them into a larger view, maybe i'll use it.

Making a time lapse around 1:00 am in the glacier lagoon. The Yule Lad on the car shot with a 400 mm lens.

Masks and more masks. It's fun animating these transitions and makes me remember my adventures in stop motion animation in Super 8 film, when i was young.

These are the guides from previous flights to be repeated on a different season. Don't use GPS coordinates, i prefer to do it by the eye.

Many shots have too many people and have no time to wait for the best moments. I have to fix it at home.

How we spend our days in Iceland. Me and my daughter-assistant-actress following the weather forecast all day long for a nice shot or two. Wind in Iceland is so annoying...

Here are 3 films to blend; one in summer, two in winter. First, make the rocks match; next, finding the best rythm for changing seasons.

Some lousy shots i was throwing into the garbage turn out to be usefull like this mountain where the elves live ( in the real world it is Dyrhólaey, on a shitty day ).
